War Against Emo

I hate the fact that great bands like My Chemical Romance are being blamed for teen suicide and depression. I've always felt that the bands I love like Avenged Sevenfold and MCR were a comfort when I was feeling down. Just because their music is slightly heavier and darker than what is 'appropriate' doesn't mean is causes major depression in teens. Teenagers who have a love for music see it as a release from things like arguing with friends or family or just generally having a bad day. Bands like Good Charlotte have written songs to help through times which they remembered as hard times. The song 'March on' has was written especially for fans who had had enough -

"Don't cry, open up your eyes and know that someone else out there feels this way, I'm singing to you because I know what you've been through and not so long ago I felt the same. Like soldiers March on if we can make it through the night we'll see the sun"

What about this song is encouraging young people to kill themselves? Well, you tell me.

I know that Rock music is much more inspirational than rap songs encouraging people to ‘smack that booty’.

And of course parents would love for their kids to spend their days wishing they were Hannah Montana but most teenagers are deeper than that and need to listen to songs that really come from the heart, the kind that when you’re at a gig the lyrics nearly send a shiver down your spine.

So seriously stop dissing the rock scene because to some it’s all they need.
